Music Education Twitter Chat

Do you use Twitter?

Personally, I’ve never found much of a use for twitter. Its kind of a useful communication platform for those who like to use it, but I’ve never really seen much point in finding out what people are doing every second of the day.

However, something has just come along to change all that. Its something called #MusEdChat, and it is happening for the first time this Monday Night (US Eastern time).

What is happening?

At a certain time on Monday nights music educators from all over the world will get on twitter all at the same time and talk about various issues affecting them.

To read the conversation you don’t even need a twitter account! Just go to and type #musedchat in the search box, and you’ll be able to see what people are saying.

If you’d like to participate in the conversation you just hit the “sign up now” button to get a free twitter account, then you can join in, and you just include #musedchat in your messages to participate in the conversation.

Today (1st March) is the first chat, so I’ve absolutely no idea what it’ll be like, however I know from the calibre of some of the people I know will be there that we’re sure to have a useful discussion.

If you’d like to follow me or contact us here at the Fun Music Company you can use our twitter name @funmusicco

Time it is all happening:

US Eastern8PM Monday
US Central7PM Monday
US Pacific5PM Monday
Australian Eastern12 noon Tuesday
United Kingdom1AM Tuesday

But of course if you can’t attend at that time you can still go to, enter the search term and read all the conversation that happened. Let me know what you think!

P.S. I know that 1AM on a Tuesday morning is hardly practical for people in Europe or the UK. Therefore if any people in those countries would like anything discussed feel free to contact me and I’ll act on your behalf and ask questions of the group.

Janice, thank you so much for spreading the news about #musedchat! I’ve just tabulated votes, and our topic for this week’s discussion will be:

What are effective methods of assessment in a performance-based class?

You and your readers can be kept up-to-date with the latest on #musedchat at Additionally, for those who are unable to attend the actual chat, the transcript will be posted at that page.

    Thanks again for sharing!

Thanks for the info. I just checked out the twitter feed and it’s great! I’m in a technology master’s course and we’re learning about how to use these social networking means to communicate with others in our subject areas. It’s a great way to touch base with others around the world and see what other music educators are doing, and I’ll be sure to spread the word!
