Content of the Grade Two Music Curriculum
“Develop skills for singing and playing instruments”
That is the simple language that is found in the Australian curriculum v9 for grade two music.
This is why here at the Fun Music Company we have hit this right on the head, straight away in the program with a series of warm up activities that cover all the bases and develop those necessary skills.
Echo Singing
Students will learn to sing through imitating simple phrases. Its as simple as that!
If you’re worried about singing in front of your students, don’t worry, we have you covered.
You can either sing for the students to copy yourself, or you can use our pre-recorded examples.
Echo Rhythm
Just like with the singing, students will improve their steady beat and rhythm skills with many of these exercises.
Students will copy patterns clapped by the teacher.
Or, if you wish you can simply play the “music with clapping” track and copy with the students.

Listening games
“Develop skills for listening…”
That is what these special listening games are designed to do.
They feature especially composed musical examples, which are unique and do not appear anywhere else. They are designed to tell a story or highlight something specific in the music. Students listen to the example without knowing the title and are given specific prompting questions, which are in the teachers’ notes.
When students have discussed the music, they then can press a button on the page to reveal the title, and compare what they heard and discussed, with the title given to the. music by the composer.
The SING & PLAY unit is featured in every one of the 40 lessons of this program.
Students will work on one of these pieces for five weeks. During those five weeks they will sing and do actions with the music. If appropriate they will move and do some simple folk dances as well.
Then they will learn untuned rhythm instruments for the music, while following along with the sheet music and developing their rhythm skills.
They will also learn tuned percussion, beginning with very simple parts with one or two notes.
Singing
Students learn to sing and do actions with the song, and all the words and sheet music are presented on the screen to help their memory.
Rhythm Instruments
Students will play rhythm instruments like tambourines, drums and tapping sticks.
They will learn to read music by following specific rhythm patterns shown on the screen.
Tuned Instruments
Students will learn simple tuned percussion parts.
Starting with just one or two notes, students will learn the parts using singing and body percussion before playing them with instruments.
In the COMPOSE unit of the grade two music curriculum students will continue with working with the elements of music. They will work on creating music in order to express an emotion or tell a story.
We use a mixture of lessons using technology on the screen and lessons creating music with real instruments.

In the CONNECT unit of this grade students will learn to listen with intention to music from a variety of styles.
After watching a short introductory video, students will complete a simple worksheet in each lesson. They will provide some factual answers, plus a section where they will be asked to write some words in response to the music they have listened to.
